Annual West Richland Parade Honors Veterans Nov. 5th

On Saturday, Nov. 5, the West Richland Area Chamber of Commerce will honor veterans with its annual Regional Veterans Day Parade. It’s one of only a handful of such parades in the state, and is officially designated as a Regional Site Parade by the Veterans Day National Committee.

Sgt. Kelsey Gray Lehto of the Washington National Guard will be honored as the parade grand marshal. She served with the 25th Infantry in Afghanistan in 2011 and 2012, and today she assists homeless veterans at the Columbia Basin Veterans Center.

Since 1999, this event has grown to have more than100 entries, with upwards of 1,200 people. Typically, more than 3,000 people view the parade.

Staging will begin at 8 a.m., and the parade will start at 9:30 on West Van Giesen between 62nd and Grosscup. From there it will proceed through the downtown area and end at 38th Ave. There’s no fee to enter the parade, and an entry form is online at westrichlandchamber.org.

An awards ceremony will be held at Flat Top Park after the parade, along with a chili feed sponsored by Combat Veterans International. Proceeds from the chili feed will help provide new flags for area veterans’ monuments.
