‘Celebrating Tapestry’: A Trip Down Memory Lane

This will be the third year in a row for performances of “Celebrating Tapestry,” a Carole King tribute concert conceived by Cathy Kelly and performed by her and six of the Tri-Cities’ finest musicians. Performances will be at the Windermere Children’s Theatre in Richland on Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 12 at 3 p.m.

“I started this project about four years ago when we were coming up on the 50th anniversary of the release of Carole King’s album ‘Tapestry‘,” Kelly said. “‘Tapestry’ was my first album, and I’ve been singing Carole’s songs throughout my years as a professional singer. I wanted to pay homage to this incredible woman.”

“Tapestry” was released in 1971 and was an instant success. It spent 15 weeks at number one on the Billboard charts and stayed on the charts for almost six years. “Those are some of the tidbits of information I share during the show.” Kelly said. “Carole was one of the first singer-songwriters, a musician writing and performing her own material. We’ve worked very hard to present the ‘Tapestry’ album in its entirety, as close to the original recording as possible.”

The show is a fundraiser for the Academy of Children’s Theatre, and tickets are available at academyofchildrenstheatre.org.
