Continuing the theme “Spotlighting 80 Years,” the Little Theatre of Walla Walla is rehearsing the second play in its 2024-25 season, the musical Guys and Dolls.
Guys and Dolls is an oddball romantic comedy written by Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling with music by Frank Loesser. Gambler Nathan Detroit tries to raise cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck. His girlfriend, nightclub performer Adelaide, laments that they’ve been engaged for 14 years. While Nathan turns to gambler Sky Masterson for the dough, Sky is chasing a strait-laced missionary named Sarah Brown. The musical takes us to Havana and even into the sewers of Damon Runyon-era New York City.
The production is directed by Cheryl Sutlick and Robert G Randall, with assistant director Jessie Clausen. Nathan Loomer stars as Nathan Detroit opposite Emily Loney as Adelaide. John Loney plays Sky Masterson, Lola Bloom portrays Sarah Brown, and 26 outstanding performers round out the cast.
Performances are on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, and 22 at 7:30 p.m., plus Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on Feb. 16 and 23. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and are available at ltww.org.
