‘Newsies: The Broadway Musical’ Staged in April

Kennewick’s family theatre organization, Vibe Music and Performing Arts, will present “Newsies: The Broadway Musical” on two weekends in April. It includes the classic songs written by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman including “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe.”

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, the show is the tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a the teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies to strike against the unfair conditions.

You’ll adore the characters Jack Kelly (Ethan Openshaw), Crutchie (Logan Ackerson), Davey and Les (Jonah Huston and Sawyer Popovich), and a crew of top-notch dancing newsies. You’ll be charmed by Katherine (Naomi Christensen), as well as Medda Larkin (Katie Custer). With an outstanding cast of 47, this show is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and all audiences.

The production will be staged at the Kennewick High School Auditorium, 560 W. 6th Ave. Evening performances are on April 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. Saturday matinees are on April 12 and 19 at 1 p.m., and an understudy show is offered on Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m.
