Trucking to be Highlighted at Fort Walla Walla

Freight hauling made possible by automotive engineering advances in the early 20th century helped shape the Pacific Northwest. The trucking industry did not grow easily before there was a modern highway system, and early truckers faced many hardships while traveling in steep mountains on one-lane gravel roads. But the industry and its hard-working drivers would not be discouraged.

Walla Walla’s branch of the American Truck Historical Society will be celebrating these triumphs on Sept. 21 at the Fort Walla Walla Museum. The society is marking its 40th year of preserving the history of the trucking industry and its pioneers in Walla Walla.
