New Tour of “Chicago” previews in Yakima

On Oct. 17 and 18, the Capitol Theatre in Yakima will kick off a new tour of the musical Chicago.

Chicago is still the one musical with everything that makes Broadway shimmy-shake. It’s a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz, with one showstopping song after another and some astonishing dancing.
In 1975, Chicago opened on Broadway with all the acclaim one would assume for a show directed and choreographed by the celebrated Bob Fosse, who partnered with one of Broadway’s most prolific creative teams, John Kander and Fred Ebbs. Ten years earlier, Kadner and Ebb swept the Tony Awards with the musical Cabaret. In its premiere season, Chicago had stiff competition in the Tony Awards from another incomparable Broadway smash, A Chorus Line.

In 1996, Chicago returned to Broadway with a revival production that won six Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. It is still on Broadway and is the longest-running musical revival in Broadway history.

This touring production premieres in Seattle, so Yakima once again serves as the West Coast location for pre-tour technical preparations. After two weeks of rehearsals, the Capitol Theatre will host preview performances on Oct. 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m.
