Presentation in Richland Will Honor Martin Luther King Jr.

Tri-Citian Arthur Broady will honor civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. at the Richland Players Theater on Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. and Jan.18 at 2 p.m. Key support for the event is provided by the African American Community Cultural & Educational Society (AACCES).

In the “The Dream We Almost Never Heard,” Broady highlights King’s “I Have a Dream” speech delivered at the 1963 March on Washington. It was not King’s planned speech. Broady reveals the backstory behind King’s impromptu message.

King was honored by the Nobel Committee in 1964. His Nobel Prize for Peace acceptance speech produced another inspiring message at a time of intense racially motivated violence. Broady addresses this history as well. And the talented gospel soloist Daphne Jackson will perform.

King’s sacrifice allowed Broady to experience many life-changing events. He became the first full-time African-American male student to enroll at Emory & Henry University in 1966. His mission now is to keep King’s legacy alive.
“Dr. King’s words and the compassionate strength in his voice influenced people to take action,” said Vanessa Moore, board member of AACCES. She added that King’s words continue to motivate us to advocate for equal opportunity.
Tickets are $10, available online at richlandplayers.org and at the door.
