Kennewick Group Will Present The Sound of Music

In May, Vibe Music and Performing Arts Center in Kennewick will present The Sound of Music, one of the most cherished musicals of all time. This final collaboration of Rodgers and Hammerstein features a trove of memorable songs including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, “The Sound of Music.”

The story takes place in Austria in 1938 and is based on the memoir of Maria Augusta von Trapp. An exuberant young governess brings music and joy to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp. But as the forces of Nazism take hold, Maria and the von Trapp family must make a profoundly moral decision. A 1965 movie version starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.

With beautiful sets, enchanting music and talented local actors ranging from 6 to 65 years of age, this is a show your whole family will love.

The production will be staged at the Living Room Church, 1409 S. Garfield St. in Kennewick. Performances are on May 10 at 7 p.m., May 11 at 1 and 6 p.m., May 12 at 3 p.m., May 17 at 7 p.m., and May 18 at 1 and 6 p.m. Purchase tickets online at vibempac.org/shows.
