The Touchet Valley Arts Council will stage 14 live performances of A Christmas Carol from Nov. 13 through Dec. 6 at the Liberty Theater in Dayton. But this version of the classic story is different.
The show is a reimagined musical combining the beloved story of the same title by Charles Dickens, published in 1843, and the well-known short story The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry, published in 1905.
Woven together, these two beautiful stories become one tale, in which the hard-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge is confronted with the choice between a self-imposed hell and a redeeming, selfless love. The strength of mercy, forbearance and benevolence is the focus of this play written and directed by Mike Ferrians and Brenda Henderson, who have collaborated in the creation of new music and lyrics to help bring the story to life.
Evening performances are at 7 p.m., and Sunday matinees begin at 3 p.m. Ticket prices range from $15 to $20, but are only $10 on family nights, Nov. 13 and Dec. 4. Tickets are on sale online at libertytheater.org and at the theater box office on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m. Wheelchair and companion seating may be available by contacting the theater manager in advance.
