Little Theatre to Stage Musical “Next to Normal” in May

The Little Theatre of Walla Walla will present Next to Normal, a modern rock musical and the last show of the 2023-2024 season. It’s directed by Brian Hatley.
Next to Normal will take you into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting a family’s story with love and sympathy. The dad’s an architect, the mom rushes to pack lunches, and their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens. They appear to be a typical American family, but their lives are anything but normal because the mother is battling bipolar disorder. The play has earned a Tony Award and a Pulitzer Prize.
The cast includes Megan Babin as Diana, Devin Greenup as Dan, Megan Linh as Natalie, Ryan James as Gabe, Kellen Flynn as Henry and Emily Loney as Dr. Fine/Dr. Madden.
May is Mental Health Month, and during intermission the theatre will showcase 10 area organizations that can help people deal with mental-health issues, drug use and the loss of a loved one.
Evening performances are at 7:30 p.m. on May 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, and 31, plus June 1. Sunday matinees are on May 19 and 26. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and can be purchased online at ltww.org.
